3v3 Tournament Guide

General Information

Tournament officials reserve the right to combine divisions when necessary. Coaches will be made aware of any changes.

Should the tournament be canceled for any reason prior to the start of the event, each team shall be entitled to a refund of entry fees minus fixed costs for referee assignor fees, team awards, printing costs, etc. Should the tournament be canceled in part due to conditions beyond the control of LOSA after the event has begun, no team shall be entitled to a full refund. The tournament reserves the right to prorate refunds, if any, at its sole discretion.




Coaches associated with more than one team should have alternates available to coach team(s) when schedule conflicts arise; schedule variations will not be made to accommodate coaches.

A maximum of 2 coaches may accompany a team on the sideline during a match. Coaches may not cross beyond the midline and shall remain in the technical area around the team’s bench.



Players may be added/deleted to your roster up until the final check in at which time rosters are frozen for the tournament.

A player must be rostered to be eligible to play in the competition and can be rostered to only one team.

Maximum number of rostered players per team is 6. Minimum number of rostered players is 3.

Females may participate on a male team but males may not participate on a female team, except in the coed division. Coed division must have one female on the field at all times.



Players, coaches, and spectators are expected to act in the nature of good sportsmanship at all times. Abuse of the referees will not be tolerated. Any instance of such conduct will disqualify the responsible team from the event.

Spectators are the responsibility of the team they are here to support. Teams can be held accountable for unruly spectators. If a spectator is asked to leave due to their behavior and refuses, the game will be stopped and considered a forfeit for their team. This includes any spectators using inappropriate noise makers such as, but not limited to, air horns, cow bells, whistles or other devices that mirror those used by tournament staff and referees for the safety of the players and spectators. This also includes any that tournament staff deems distracting or demeaning to the teams and/or their fans.



The home team is listed first on the schedule.

Point system-  2 points for a win

1 point for a tie

1 point for a shutout

0 points for a loss

1 point per goal over opposing team, up to 3

4 points for a forfeit win

When bracket winners cannot be determined by point totals the following rules will be used to break ties:

1.                         Fewest goals allowed

2.                         Goals scored

3.                         Highest goal differential

4.                         Most shutouts

5.                         Extra play in format listed under “duration of game and extra play”


Appeals and Protests

There will be no protests.



Rules of Play

USSF Laws of the Game will be in effect unless modified below.


Field Dimensions

10U and 12U age divisions will play on a field measuring 20 yds. X 35 yds. 14U and above age divisions will play on a field measuring 25 yds. X 40 yds.


Players and Equipment

Shin guards are mandatory for all games.

No jewelry of any kind may be worn.

It is the responsibility of the home team to change uniforms in case of conflict and asked to do so by a game official. Each team should bring two sets of numbered shirts, each set a different color.

12U and below will play with size 4 ball. 14U and above will play with size 5 ball.

A team consists of 3 fielders on the pitch- no goalkeeper.

Forfeit will be declared if a team fails to have 3 players on the field 5 minutes after the scheduled start time. Teams must start the game with 3 players, however, they may finish the game with 2 players. If a team is down to 1 player the game will be ended immediately regardless of time remaining.

Teams will be on one side of the field with spectators on the other.



Unlimited substitution is allowed. Substitution can be done at any stoppage (except injury stoppage) or on the “fly”. All substitution will be done at team side midfield line. The player coming off must be completely off the field at the team side before the substitute player enters the field. A team can substitute for an injured player only after the referee calls stoppage of the play for the injury. No other substitution is allowed at this time for either team until play resumes.


Duration of Game and Extra Play

All age divisions will play 12 minutes halve with a 5-minute halftime.

There will be no extra time except for semifinals and championship. Extra time will be a 5-minute period. If teams are still tied, the period will be repeated until a winner is determined.


Manner of Play and Scoring

All re-starts, free kicks, corner kicks, etc. are indirect.

In all dead ball situations, defending players must stand at least 5 yards away from the ball. If the defensive players’ goal area is closer than 5 yards, the ball shall be placed 5 yards from the goal area in line with the place of the infraction.

On kickoffs, the ball may move forward or backwards on first touch. However, a goal cannot be scored on first touch.

A goal cannot be scored directly from a corner kick.

Goal kicks may be taken from any point on the end line, not in the goal area. Opposing team must retreat to half line.

Out-of-bounds will be restarted by a kick-in and not a throw-in. A goal cannot be scored directly from an out-of-bounds kick-in.

The ball must be struck or touched by any player from either team in the attacking half of the field for a goal to be scored.

No offside will be called.

No slide tackling anywhere on the field of play. This action will result in a caution and yellow card unless it is determined by the referee that excessive force was employed in which case the player will be shown the red card and sent off.


Goal and Goal Area

The ball is considered in the goal area when the ball breaks the plane of the boundary lines of the goal area.

A player is considered in the goal area if any part of the player's body breaks the plane of the boundary lines of the goal area.

No player may touch the ball within the goal area, however any player may move through the goal area.

If a defensive player touches the ball while the ball is in the goal area or if a defensive player touches the ball while the player is in the goal area it will be an automatic goal for the offensive team followed by a kickoff at midfield by the non-scoring team.

If an offensive player touches the ball while the ball is in the goal area or if an offensive player touches the ball while the player is in the goal area no goal will count. The defensive team will be awarded a goal kick.

If an offensive and defensive player touch the ball while the ball is in the goal area or while both players are in the goal area in the continuation of the same play, a dropped ball will occur 10 yards outside the goal area.

If the ball comes to a stop in the goal area, play will be restarted by a dropped ball 10 yards outside the goal area.

Any player who moves or touches a goal in a manner determined by the referee to be unsporting will be cautioned and shown a yellow card.

The goals are approximately 4 feet x 6 feet.


Cautions and Ejections

A player who is cautioned and shown the yellow card must leave the field of play for 1 minute and can be substituted.

A player who is sent off and shown the red card must leave the field area immediately. A player who is shown the red card can be substituted and the team will not play short.

Players ejected from a match are ineligible to compete in the next scheduled game- this includes semifinal and final matches.

Players may be ejected for the remainder of the tournament for violent or vulgar behavior.

Any player who violates their game suspension will cause their team to automatically forfeit the next schedule game.
